The track and field community remained astounded as a four-time NCAA Champion decided to end her collegiate career. The North Carolina State middle and long-distance runner has decided to turn professional and start a new journey.
Katelyn Tuohy is a decorated NC State athlete who holds multiple indoor and outdoor track and field records in middle and long-distance running. Tuohy’s social media post revealed that the 5x Gatorade Player of the Year has turned professional under the wing of Adidas. As she departs to join the $40.46 billion sports giant, Tuohy wrote a heartfelt farewell message for her beloved university.

Katelyn Tuohy added a new post on Instagram, looking back on her journey with NC State. The track and field athlete wrote, “As I reflect on the past 3 1/2 years of my journey at NC State I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the support, guidance, and encouragement I’ve received.”

She further mentioned, “The experience of being part of this team has been very special, shaping me not only as an athlete but also as an individual. The lessons learned, the friendships formed, and the moments shared will forever hold a special place in my heart.” While she thanked her coaches, teammates, and staff, she also expressed her excitement to run as a pro track and field athlete.
Katelyn Tuohy added, “I am super excited to announce that I will be running professionally for Adidas! I am looking forward to this next chapter and the opportunities that lie ahead!! Thank you @adidas and @adidasrunning for adding me to the three stripe family ///”
Although Tuohy is leaving the fold of the Wolfpack, she will still regularly train with her NC State coach Laurie Henes. While Tuohy’s decision blindsided everyone, the track and field sensation had it in the plans for a long time. In fact, she already knew that she wouldn’t be starting a new collegiate season.

The decision to forfeit all her collegiate progress wasn’t easy, but the thought of it had been cooking in Tuohy’s head since last year. While the thought took root in her mind in spring, it kept getting stronger throughout the season. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the track and field sensation had already packed her bags even before the season officially ended.

Katelyn Tuohy has decided to stick close to her Wolfpack coach owing to the proximity of the Olympics. Her plans also involve stepping up her preparation by training at an altitude in Arizona. This would be a career-first for the track and field star, but she is game for anything to move upwards.
