Noah Lyles is currently ruling the world of track and field. But, there was a time when he was just a high-school sprinter with a dream, big enough to skip college. He improved himself slowly and steadily and is the best in the world today. Interestingly, a young high school athlete is showcasing a similar trajectory.
Track and field athlete Quincy Wilson is a 15-year-old sprinter for Bullis High School. While the youngster specializes in the 400m and the 500m racetracks, his most recent achievement has shocked the country. He just delivered the second-fastest sprint of all time in the 500m category.

Track and field digital content creator Rori Fitz added a new tweet on his X account discussing Quincy Wilson’s 500m indoor accomplishment. The tweet carried the caption, “Quincy Wilson’s 2024 season is going to be a special one! He dropped a 1:01.27 500m at the VA Showcase today. That’s #2 all-time in the distance! He’s only a sophomore btw.”

The fastest high school sprint in this distance at high school level stands just 0.02 milliseconds away from Wilson’s latest finish. Shining bright just like Noah Lyles, Wilson has been improving his speed very consistently. Running on the 400m outdoor track, Wilson posted a time of 48.41 seconds in March 2022 when he was 14.
However, shaving time off this already fast finish, he covered the same distance in 46.47 seconds in March 2023. While this differential took a whole year to come, he has shown he has more potential. While Noah Lyles excels in the 4x100m relays, Wilson showed his magic in the 4x400m dash. In fact, he almost thrashed the sub-45 barrier with his phenomenal sprint.

The Calabar High School in Jamaica was leading the race throughout and had gained a very large lead by the time Wilson got his turn. Cranking things up, however, Wilson didn’t just catch up with Calabar but overtook its last runner by a large stretch. Wilson was the first to cross the finish line and win the race for Bullis High School. Is this 15-year-old high school prodigy the next breakout star for America after Noah Lyles?
