While the Olympic Games continue to allure athletes from all walks of life, the human body often fails to meet the high demands of the tournament. The Paris Olympic Games are around the corner beckoning track and field stars from around the world who are working hard to etch their names in history. However, not everyone seems to have enough steam left in their engines to continue performing at the highest level.

It seems like we may not be a party to witness French 800m sprinter and former World Champion Pierre-Ambroise Bosse stepping onto the track in Paris. Bosse became an overnight heartthrob after securing the top spot at the 2017 800m and his retirement decision will surely break a lot of hearts. 

Former world champ takes his leave

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Bosse’s plans to hang up his boots have caught his fans off guard. For many of the French and global diaspora, seeing Ambroise back in his natural habitat would have been a treat. However, it looks like it’s not to be and the fans will have to find other means to satiate their thirst for a good race.

While sprinters and other athletes are hoping to bring out their top-tier performance ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Bosse believes his time on the track has concluded. At the age of 31, many sprinters continue to dominate the scoreboards with determined focuses. However, Bosse feels like this is a good time as any to make his exit.

“ I want to go to the Games but I know my body won’t allow me to ”, the post quoted Bosse. While Bosse’s 2017 time of 1:44.67 won him his gold medal, it isn’t his best record. The French sensation set a national record in 800m in 2014 (1:42.53), which also stands as his personal best. With Bosse’s retirement, the French will have to find solace elsewhere for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Olympics beckon and athletes oblige

While Pierre-Ambroise Bosse’s fans tend to a broken heart, other iconic names of the track look determined to make the Paris Olympics one to remember for posterity. Jamaican sprinter and global celebrity racer Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce recently announced that Paris will see her appearing for the Games for the last time , she’s been seen pouring every iota of energy she has in the gym to get back in shape.

Along with that, another legend of the sport, Fred Kerley is also looking to set the tracks on fire in Paris next year. Kerley will be participating in the 60m category for the first time in his career and we hope he will at least help us to partially forget about Bosse being absent from the games. We doff our hat to the indelible mark Bosse has imprinted in the sporting world.
