The much anticipated Diamond League Eugene is set to take place on May 25th, another springboard for Olympic glory. This event draws elite athletes worldwide to the United States, making it a must-watch spectacle. Among the luminaries gracing the track are Elaine Thompson-Herah, Sha’Carri Richardson, Christian Coleman and more. However, the anticipation reaches fever pitch as fans eagerly await confirmation of appearances by Five-time Wanda Diamond League champion and six-time world champion Noah Lyles and two-time 200m world champion Shericka Jackson, respectively. Will these titans grace us with their presence in the Eugene Diamond League?

According to the Diamond League website, as of May 23rd, roster is not revealed but as per other sources neither Shericka Jackson nor Noah Lyles has been announced to perform at the upcoming event on May 25th. However, Shericka Jackson has already made her mark in the 2024 Marrakesh Diamond League by winning her first event. Meanwhile, Noah Lyles has not yet competed in any Diamond League meets this season but is expected to join the competition soon. The big question remains: which event will he choose?

Noah Lyles will continue his quest to become the greatest Diamond League athlete in history. He headlines the men’s 100m in London on July 20th. Last year, Lyles won a hat trick of gold medals at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, sweeping the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay. The 2024 edition of the London Athletics Meet acts as the last major competition before the Olympic Games, just six days before the Opening Ceremony.

Lyles will return to the London Stadium after running one of the quickest 200m times in history at the event last year, clocking 19.47 seconds—the fastest time of 2023. At the upcoming Diamond League Eugene, although Noah Lyles will not compete, it would have been a perfect opportunity for him to seek revenge against arch rival Christian Coleman before the Paris Olympics. Last year in the Diamond League finals, Christian Coleman ran a world-leading 9.83 seconds, equaling his own top time for the second time in quick succession, to beat world champion Noah Lyles who ran 9.85.

But what about Shericka Jackson? will she perform in any upcoming Diamond League?

Shericka Jackson- conquering the Diamond League history

In 2024, Shericka Jackson claimed her first victory in the half-lap race of the year at the Marrakesh Diamond League meeting in Morocco on 19 May. Despite posting a time of 22.82 seconds, which by her lofty standards might seem pedestrian, Jackson showcased her trademark composure as she crossed the finish line.

In 2023, she etched her name in track and field history by becoming only the third woman to accomplish the Diamond League sprint double. Her exceptional show at the Prefontaine Classic finals, where she set a meet record of 21.57 seconds in the 200m, followed by a stunning 100m victory in 10.70 seconds, catapulted her to prominence.

If Noah Lyles and Shericka Jackson were to grace the upcoming meet with their presence, anticipation would undoubtedly be high for their dominant performance on the track. With each stride they take, they inch closer to breaking records, firmly establishing themselves as two of the most formidable sprinters of their generation. What do you think about this perspective?
