This throwback athletics video was shared by NBC Sports. It shows Jonathan Brownlee making his way towards the finish line of the World Series, but as he approaches the finish line, he starts to tumble. He loses his sense of direction due to the heat or exhaustion and gets support from a spectator standing there. But just when he almost gave up, his elder brother Alistair Brownlee, who was also a part of the race, shows up out of nowhere and assists him with crossing the finishing line. The video was captioned as “An inspiring act of sportsmanship and brotherly love. Alistair Brownlee dropped everything to help his brother cross the finish line.” Alistair, poised for second place, disregarded his position, offering his shoulder to his younger brother, ensuring he could complete the race.

These two were so far ahead of others that both of them started running towards the finish line and were placed second and third, respectively. However, in the process of making him cross the finish line, Henri Schoeman from South Africa took the lead and secured the first position with a time of 1:46:50. Jonathan was pushed by his brother so that he could have the second position, while Alistair himself finished in third. This triathlon event carries its own unique allure in athletes’ careers, representing a significant achievement for triathletes. However, Alistair’s resilience highlights that sportsmanship holds greater value than individual achievements.

Alistair’s perspective on his demonstration of Athletic gesture

In the post-event interview, Alistair said that he himself has been in that position before, and it happened to him as well in London. He was also leading the pack in a similar fashion as Jonathan. He also added that if it happened to anyone else on the track, he would have done the same as he did for his brother. This duo, the Brownlee brothers, is considered one of the best duos in Athletics history. Alistair is the only triathlete to win two Olympic titles in individual triathlon events. He is a four-time world champion and a four-time European champion in triathlon. While his younger brother Jonathan is a one-time Olympic champion and a six-time world champion.
