Noah Lyles has been making headlines both on and off the track. The American sprinter bagged a hat trick of gold medals at the recent 2023 World Athletics Championships held in Budapest. He showcased some impeccable runs that saw him winning the men’s 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay. This led him to become the first athlete to win both 100m and 200m in the same tournament since 2015. But despite a great tournament, Noah Lyles is facing some heat from basketball players for his recent comments.
After winning the men’s 200m in a dominant fashion, Lyles participated in a press conference. Some of his remarks about the NBA did not sit right with some accomplished NBA stars who were not only offended by the sprinter’s comments but also reacted to his remarks online. However, amidst all the buzz of controversy, Lyles seems to be relaxed as he enjoys his off time with his Jamaican girlfriend.

In a recent press conference, Lyles threw shade at the NBA by saying, “You know what hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have ‘world champion’ on their head. World champion of what? The United States?” He indicated that since the NBA does not allow teams from other countries to compete with them, how can their world champion tag be justified? This wasn’t taken well by a number of NBA stars, and one of the first ones to respond to this remark was an Olympic and world championship medal holder, Kevin Durant. The NBA star remarked, “Somebody help this brother.” Tokyo Olympics gold medalist displayed his emotions with a facepalm emoji.
However, Lyles seems unfazed by this ongoing backlash as his girlfriend’s Instagram stories reveal the couple to be enjoying themselves. Jamaican sprinter Junelle Bromfield shared a number of selfies with her boyfriend as they took a much-deserved break following the 2023 World Championships. Just like her boyfriend, Bromfield is also a track athlete hailing from Jamaica, who specializes in the 4×400 meter relay event. She was also part of the 4x400m relay team that clinched a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

More recently, Bromfield secured a silver medal with her 4x400m relay team at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. She also boasts a personal best time of 50.77 seconds in the 400m discipline. This highlights that both Lyles and Bromfield draw inspiration from each other and support one another both on and off the track. As the power track couple enjoys their time off, Lyles will soon be in action again in Zurich.
American sprinter eyes 2023 Zurich Diamond League
Just days after a dominant display in the 200m event, Noah Lyles will be heading to Zurich. The 2023 Zurich Diamond League is scheduled for Thursday (31 August) and will see Noah Lyles take on Erriyon Knighton and Canadian Andre De Grasse once more for the 200m crown. Lyles enters the tournament as the 3 time-defending 200m world champion and is set to face strong competition from Knighton, who settled for silver in Budapest. The reigning world champion will also have to consider the challenge posed by Letsile Tebogo, who finished third against Lyles in Budapest with 19.81 seconds.
