Home/Olympics

60m World Champion Christian Coleman continues to astonish the world with his exceptional sprinting prowess. After clinching the gold medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024 in Glasgow, beating the 100m world champion Noah Lyles in the 60 m sprint, Coleman once again announced his legacy at the event. While Coleman is chasing his splendid triumph, the NFL world also witnessed a dash to celebrate lately.

Retired football quarterback Tom Brady is in the limelight for shattering his 24-year-old 40-yard dash record at the age of 46. Brady ran the 40-yard dash at the 2000 NFL scouting combine in 5.28 seconds. Recently, Brady ran the same distance in 5.12 seconds. Amid Brady’s triumph, a 2017 clip of Coleman’s 40m dash has resurfaced. It could not have skipped his eyes. Coleman reshared it, along with an ambitious reminder of his class.

Recently, American former football quarterback Robert Griffin III shared a clip of Christian Coleman’s 40m dash. Coleman ran it in 2017 at the Volunteers football facilities amid the NFL draft of that year. He took 4.12 seconds to wrap it up.

Highlighting this, Griffin wrote, “For those watching the NFL Combine, there is a MASSIVE difference between football speed and track speed. Here is Christian Coleman running a 4.12 second 40-yard dash at 85% effort. The NFL Combine record is 4.22.” Coleman reshared it, making it even more interesting.

Posting it with a major reminder, Coleman wrote, “Mind you this was 7 years ago. My start way more efficient today.” And there is every reason for Coleman to boast, given his recent performance and also the margin with which he overcame the NFL combine record seven years back.

Each year, more than 300 of the nation’s top college football players travel to Indianapolis to compete in the NFL combine. This is to boost their draft stock to play in the NFL. These prospects are put through positional drills and combine events, such as the 40-yard dash and vertical jump, to display their talents. The present NFL combine record is in the name of John Ross, former Washington wide receiver. He ran the 40m in 4.22 seconds.

With his timing in that 40m dash, Coleman put up a stern challenge to the NFL world in terms of being “fast”. The same challenge he posed recently to arch-rival Noah Lyles, thereby brushing up on his grandest target.

Chasing the Olympic glory

After defeating Noah Lyles, in the 60m event, Christian Coleman remarked, “I know I’ve got a lot to do outdoors, but as far as the 60m goes, I feel like I’m the best ever.” He holds the world record for the 60m at 6.34 seconds set in 2018, and after his recent triumph, he expressed his excitement about the Paris Olympics.
