American track legend Allyson Felix has a host of records to her name. She is not only the most decorated female track athlete but also the most decorated American track athlete with 11 Olympic medals. Her latest Olympic medal in Tokyo broke her tie with track legend Carl Lewis, who has 10 Olympic medals to his name. Felix is also the only female track athlete in the world to possess 7 gold medals, while she also has 3 silver and 1 bronze medal. When it comes to the world championships, she holds another medal record with her 20 world championship medals. While records are meant to be broken, nobody has come closer to Felix’s records than Jamaican sprint icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is a veteran of the sport. Boasting a glorious trophy cabinet herself, the Jamaican still has a long way to go in order to catch up to Allyson Felix, but her latest performances indicate that she is on the right track. However, the track and field rumor mill suggests that time may be running short for the Jamaican sprinter if she wants to equal Allyson Felix’s track legacy.

All elite sports stars can only perform till their body allows them. Age and physical health, along with mental toughness, play a huge role in an elite athlete’s sporting journey. Allyson Felix was 35 years old when she made history with her 11th Olympic medal. She retired last year at 36. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is the closest female athlete who is in viewing distance of Felix’s records. When it comes to the Olympics, the Jamaican has 8 Olympic medals, while she also possesses 16 world championship medals. Only 4 shy off Allyson Felix’s world championship record.

Fraser-Pryce’s latest world medals came in Budapest as she secured bronze and silver medals after facing some tough competition. But amidst her performances in Budapest, rumors suggested that this may have been the Jamaican’s last-ever run at a world championship. An X user claimed, “She said that Budapest is her last WC & Paris will be her last Olympics.”

Fraser-Pryce still needs 4 world championship medals or 3 Olympic medals to equal one of Allyson Felix’s records. However, recent injuries have restricted Fraser-Pryce from running as frequently as she used to, but her latest social media posts suggest she is ready to dominate the Olympics once again.

This year started with an injury for Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. This led to her cutting down on the number of races she could run. She battled hard in Budapest and secured a bronze medal with her season-best time of 10.77 seconds, against the likes of Sha’Carri Richardson and her countrywoman Shericka Jackson. Fraser-Pryce also picked up an injury during the tournament but still helped her country secure a silver medal in the 4x100m relay.

Now, as she looks ahead to Paris amidst her recovery, she posted a powerful caption on Instagram, which emphasized her appreciation for her country and the medical staff that is helping her in her recovery.
