Is Tyreek Hill's off-field drama overshadowing Noah Lyles' rising talent in track and field?

It seems like Noah Lyles can’t catch a break these days. His beef with NFL star Tyreek Hill is still ongoing. There is a possibility that Noah Lyles will race him in a one-on-one to see if the wide receiver’s claims of being able to beat him are actually true. Both seem interested in this challenge, and their rivalry looks set to be settled on the track in the future. However, before this showdown could happen, another athlete expressed his disdain for the Olympic gold medalist.

Erin Brown, a Grand Canyon track athlete, talked about his dislike for Noah Lyles in the Ready Set Go podcast. While he acknowledges Noah Lyles’ achievements, he isn’t a fan of Lyles’ style of entertainment. In fact, he even released a diss track on YouTube against the athlete, which Lyles has yet to acknowledge. Now, Justin Gatlin is calling for Noah to respond to it.

Track legend Justin Gatlin wants Noah Lyles to respond to Erin Brown. The Grand Canyon athlete made a diss track against Noah called the “Step Sons”. Gatlin said, “I must say I do, I hope, I wish Noah if you watching this, I need, we need a response diss track. We need to get track and field diss because he does music. So we need a diss track to entertain the track world, man.” Rodney Green backed up this idea saying that this would be interesting for the track world to witness.

In the diss track, Erin Brown mockingly referred to Noah Lyles as his “stepson.” He claimed that while Noah has to run to make a living, he could do so by simply creating short videos for social media. Brown also accused Noah of using the NBA for clout, implying that he wasn’t famous enough on his own. This was a reference to Lyles criticizing the NBA for labeling its champions as “world champions,” despite competing only within the USA.

Diss tracks have become a notable element of sports culture, originating from social media influencers-turned-boxers who used them to generate hype for their events. If Noah Lyles were to release his own diss track, it could create substantial buzz, offering something unique to the track and field scene. Given Lyles’ background in music, he certainly has the expertise to pull it off.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Tyreek Hill's off-field drama overshadowing Noah Lyles' rising talent in track and field?

Have an interesting take?

Away from the track, Noah Lyles has shown a huge interest in music. His Instagram ID Nojo18 is actually the rapper name he gave to himself. He has released numerous songs including one full-length album called ‘A Humans Journey’. According to him, listening to his album is a way for his fans to understand their journey here. He said, “You have to figure out what the purpose of the journey is by listening to the album. Because the journey to heaven is not a sprint.”

Noah Lyles’ Spotify account currently boasts 945 monthly listeners, with his most-streamed song titled “PR.” Back in 2019, he collaborated with Olympic silver medalist pole vaulter Sandi Morris on a track that they performed together at the opening ceremony of the Zurich Diamond League. Given this background, Lyles is certainly more than capable of creating a diss track that could shake up the world of track and field. In fact, it’s quite unreasonable to claim that he isn’t an entertaining athlete—his flamboyant nature has undeniably brought more attention to the sport. He doesn’t need to prove his entertainment value to anyone. However, the idea of seeing him engage in a back-and-forth with another athlete is certainly intriguing. That said, it seems unlikely, as he has never actually mentioned Erin Williams by name. Will he address him in the future? What do you think?
