Shericka Jackson took the Eugene event by storm and won her second title in two days. She blazed through the Hayward Field track and surged ahead to claim her second Diamond trophy of the season. It looks like the American track is well suited to the current world champion, as she also won the 100 meters on day one of the Prefontaine Classic 2023. The Jamaican runner has added another feather to her crown and has ended the 2023 season on a great note.

She has put on a show on American soil ever since she landed in Eugene to participate in the finals. However, she was already anticipated to win the 200 meter as well, as in the past few months no one has managed to even come close to her when it comes to the 200-meter heat.

Jackson looked poised as she lined up in lane seven, and it was again a picture-perfect finish for the Jamaican prodigy. She jetted off to a great start once again and almost replicated her world championship victory, finishing the race in 21.57 seconds. Ivorian runner Marie-Josee Ta Lou was placed second after a 22.10-second finish, while Anthonique Strachan of the Bahamas finished third with 22.16 seconds on the clock. Along with the victory, Jackson has also set the meet record in the Diamond League.

With this win, Jackson has framed two Diamond League golds on her wall of fame. However, there is one thing that the reigning world champion has been trailing for a while but could not manage to reach until now.

She has been pursuing Florence Griffith Joyner’s 21.34-second world record for some time but hasn’t been able to surpass it yet. Nevertheless, she has signed off the 2023 season in style, and she will be looking to replicate this season in the next year as well.

Jackson had a staunch 2023 season

The 29-year-old athlete defended her 200-meter world championship title this year. She clocked 21.41 seconds on the clock to defend the title in Budapest; it was also the second-fastest time in the world.

Not only this, she also managed to win a silver in the 100 meters after she had to battle for second place against her American rival, Sha’Carri Richardson. Jackson then came to the Zurich Diamond League, where she again displayed her dominance and secured the top spot after a 21.82-second finish.
