We knew Athlos NYC would be a titillating show, especially considering the hype Alexis Ohanian & Co. created around it. But we didn’t expect it to be this successful! The inaugural edition of the women-only track and field event has been a resounding hit and the Reddit co-founder can barely hide his glee about it.
Tennis icon Serena Williams’ husband’s commitment to helping female athletes attain a higher standard is common knowledge by now. His efforts to provide an equal stage to female stars seem to have paid off in style, especially thanks to his extensive collaboration with multiple streaming networks and social media platforms, and Ohanian can’t help but feel grateful for the success his latest venture has garnered.
In his social media post on X from October 11, Alexis Ohanian sought to crunch some numbers to highlight how the Athlos NYC racked up viewership numbers on its very first run. “3 *million* viewers saw @Athlos around the world, across our streaming partners @ESPN, @dazngroup, @YouTube, & @X,” Ohanian beams with pride. “What an amazing, amazing job,” he repeats in the brief video clip that accompanies the post.

As an entrepreneur, it’s always hearty to see your ambitions take flight. But when it exceeds even your most vivid dreams, even better! Understandably, Ohanian is feeling atop Cloud 9 right now, and who could blame him? To reiterate why he’s feeling so elated, Ohanian also drew attention to how the ladies of Athlos left Caitlin Clark behind on their maiden run.
3 MILLION.
That’s right—3 *million* viewers saw @Athlos around the world, across our streaming partners @ESPN, @dazngroup, @YouTube, & @X.
Amazing job. Credit to these incredible athletes. To the team that put this together. To everybody for watching and supporting. pic.twitter.com/rIRbKhr9Ep

“I’ve been looking for a comparison. Caitlin Clark’s debut in the WNBA got 2.1 million views,” the venture capitalist highlights with a grin on his face. He goes on to thank everyone who helped to spread the word and boost the popularity of the track and field event last month. “The ladies of track do not play. I’m just so, so proud,” Ohanian reaffirms. But, despite Alexis’ collaboration with the streaming service platforms, it can be safe to say that the event’s roster had a lot of attraction that helped to rake in viewers.

To emphasize his seriousness about Athlos NYC, Ohanian roped in Gabby Thomas as the face of the event. The Harvard grad hailed Alexis’ efforts as “a great opportunity to increase visibility in sports, especially women’s sports, and especially women’s track and field,” and claimed that these would definitely transform women’s sports for the better. She went on to the 2024 Paris Olympics and bagged three gold medals, creating more hype among fans to see what she had in store for Ohanian’s ambitious project. Eventually, more and more Olympians and other sprinting stars were onboarded for the event, and it proved to be a major success.
