Can Tyreek Hill's NFL speed really match up to Noah Lyles' Olympic prowess on the track?

Terry Crews dropped a bombshell less than a week ago, and track and field fans are already hyped for what’s shaping up to be the showdown of the year. After months of speculation, back-and-forths, and a whole lot of trash talk, Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill are finally set to square off on the track. Crews gets major props for hosting the “Super Serious On Sight” series, which will give us the Olympic champ vs. the NFL’s Cheetah race we’ve all been dying to see. The only catch? Lyles has hinted it could be a 60-meter race, but nothing official has dropped yet. Still, the experts are already weighing in.

The drama between Lyles and Hill kicked off post-Paris Olympics when the Miami Dolphins speedster threw some shade at Noah’s “fastest man” title. At first, Noah let it slide, but when Hill kept chirping, Lyles clapped back, questioning whether Tyreek was even serious about the challenge, calling him a “clout chaser.” Oof. Hill didn’t love that and fired back with a bold challenge: a 50-yard race and the infamous “Sign the contract.” But trying to drag Noah Lyles into a mind game? That didn’t exactly play out well for Hill.

Lyles, with his six world titles in tow, didn’t miss a beat. “Everybody wants to race the fastest man,” he said, adding, “I didn’t grab this title because it’s easy.” Not to mention, he’s sticking to his guns, pushing for a 60-meter showdown instead of Hill’s preferred 50-yard sprint. “We’re in talks,” Lyles said, making it clear he was not about to give Hill any advantage. Enter Terry Crews with the official announcement. We’ve got a race, but the distance is still up in the air. So, can Hill hang with the reigning Olympic king? According to veteran athlete Rodney Green? Hill’s got no chance!

In the latest Ready Set Go podcast episode, the former track and field athlete said, “He doesn’t have a chance, no.” However, his colleague in the podcast, Justin Gatlin, asked him if there would be a chance for Hill in a 50-meter race between him and Lyles. But that even couldn’t derail the Bahamian star from his statement. He steadfastly refused to count the Dolphins’ WR before the six-time world champion. But that wasn’t the end of the discussion.

Yet Green had something in his bag for the 30-year-old NFL star from Georgia. He backed Hill, having a chance against Noah in a 30m race. That might be because of his quicker reaction time on the field compared to Lyles. However, per Gatlin, that would be “the shortest race ever in life.” In reality, a 30m sprint does exist. However, sports like soccer classify its use only in the speed test. So, bringing such an event into the mainstream might not be commercially profitable, according to the former Olympic champion. With that statement, the argument ended there. But Gatlin has a suggestion appropriate for any short form of sprint.

Watching Noah Lyles closely for the last several years has allowed Gatlin to assess the technical part of his successor’s sprint. Relying on that, he left his suggestion for Hill: “We know that the best part of his [Noah Lyles] race is always the second half of the race. So the best advantage that Tyreek has coming into this is catching Noah not at his sharpness.” Yet, it failed to impress Rodney Green. He eventually concluded his statement by putting in, “Tyreek is not of his caliber, bro. He ain’t gonna do that.” The entire talk practically echoed the identical theme struck by another track and field champion a few weeks prior.

In the race against Tyreek Hill, Noah Lyles earns a vote from his colleague

Noah Lyles has the upper hand over Tyreek Hill by every means. In the tête-à-tête with Justin Gatlin, Rodney Green tried to focus on that. However, as per an Olympic medalist, he is not wrong. A few weeks ago, Twanisha Terry sat with Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller, discussing the current track and field scenario. However, the conversation brought up the topic of the fiery battle between Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill. Yet TT presented her side as an eyewitness to Noah’s speed on the track.

Taking her colleague’s side, she laid out, “The man, the man when the man reached top speed. The sh-t crazy now.” That is the reality in the 100-meter race, where Noah Lyles does not leave any space for his opponent to grab a bite. However, sports fans have expressed concern about his unnerving reaction time in the early stages of each race.

But the argument stood dwarf in front of the proof presented by Terry. Notably, with the outdoor 100m title at the Paris Olympics, Lyles also has the runner-up medal in the men’s 60m event from this year’s World Athletics Indoor Championship. That marks him having superiority in the shorter event as well. Considering that, TT said, “Noah has run some great sixties with…terrible starts.” On paper, Noah Lyles is a beast. But when it comes down to that actual race, who knows what could happen? Guess we’ll just have to stay tuned.
