The year 2023 has been full of highs and lows for the track and field community. Apart from staunch comebacks and breaking 100-year-old records, the sport has also faced many setbacks this year. Prior to the US track and field championship, NBC decided to stop streaming the event on live TV. The company decided to stream the event on paid channels of CNC and USATF.TV. Amid this situation, the athletes raised the concern of not getting the attention they deserve.

Following these hardships, a $180,000,000,000 streaming company has decided to cover track and field athletes. Netflix after covering sports such as Formula One and Golf has decided to make a docu-series following top-tier track and field athletes from all around the world.

Netflix set to make a track-and-field docu-series

A billion-dollar company, Netflix, has decided to make a documentary series covering track and field, releasing in 2024. The six-part series will focus on top-notch athletes from countries including Italy, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the home of the many top-tier runners, Jamaica. The World Track and Field Championship starting on 19 August will act as a backdrop for the show. According to The Deadline, the documentary series will provide “an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the high stakes and mental toughness of the sprinters.

The show will be produced by the company which produced the hit Formula One docu-series, “Drive to Survive,” The show increased the sport’s viewership tremendously in the United States. Production company Box to Box has also produced other successful sports series, including a Golf docudrama, “Full Swing,” and a series about the top tennis players, “Break Point.” Now, next year, the company will showcase the stories of the top track and field sprinters. The show will be produced by Paul Martin, James Gay-Rees, and Warren Smith and most likely cover a few known athletes in the athletics community.

Although the specific details of the show have not been released yet, according to a few media outlets, the show will cover US sprinting star Noah Lyles in Oregon. The show is also covering Christian Coleman and Olympic athlete Marie-Josee Ta Lou. Furthermore, at the Budapest World Championship event, the series will most likely also cover  Sha’Carri Richardson and Shelly Ann-Fraser Pryce’s fight for the final win in the 100m race. The Docu-series will be released before the 2024 Diamond League finals or before the Paris Olympics Games 2024.

In essence, after all the struggle and hardships faced by the track and field community this year, the sport is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Hopefully, the show will be a big success and will also cover track events in the future.
