Erriyon Knighton is proving to be a rising star for U.S. track. Many track and field fans have already hailed the 19-year-old as a successor to the legendary Usain Bolt. Knighton boasts a sub-10 second time in the 100m and was also the first American teenager to shatter the 20-second barrier in the 200m discipline.

The 19-year-old also dismantled Usain Bolt’s world Under-20 record that had stood strong for 18 remarkable years, with a time of 19.49 seconds (+1.4). This wasn’t all, as he also set a new U-18 world record in 2021 (19.84) by breaking Bolt’s 2003 record (20.13). However, despite his fantastic run of form, he fell short against Noah Lyles in Budapest.

Lyles and Knighton faced off against each other in the 200m event, which saw Lyles successfully defending his crown by running 19.51 seconds. Knighton performed well with his 19.75 time as he secured a silver medal. However, in only a few days’ time, Noah Lyles will face off against Erriyon Knighton once again, as the two talented track stars travel to Zurich.

Scheduled for Thursday, August 31, the Zurich Diamond League event is set to witness the likes of Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson among a host of other stars.

Fresh off his triumphant feat at the World Championships, where he secured the prestigious 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay crowns, Lyles will once again face some familiar foes. He will be appearing at the 200m event as the reigning three-time world champion. Joining him in Zurich is a star-studded cast that includes Olympic champion Andre De Grasse and U.S. track prodigy Erriyon Knighton.

They will also be joined by fellow athletes Kenny Bednarek, Letsile Tebogo, Aaron Brown, Zharnel Huges, and William Reais. De Grasse had to come back empty-handed from Budapest as he finished 6th when he faced off Lyles.

Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo secured a bronze medal against Lyles with his 19.81-second race time. Lyles remains the favorite after his amazing gold-winning runs in Budapest, but other competitors will try their best to end Lyle’s winning streak. Despite winning big on the track, Lyles seems to have found himself in some trouble with NBA players after his latest comments in a press conference. One of the icons of the premier basketball league in the world has as bone to pick with Lyles.
