Olympic champion Noah Lyles‘ relationship with Jamaican sprinter Junelle Bromfield is among the most talked about topics in the track and field community. It’s not uncommon for two stars from the same sport to date one another. However, while Lyles is no stranger to controversy, what he said in July put his girlfriend in hot water as well.
“I’ve been getting the drama from Jamaican camps for at least five years now,” the 27-year-old said. His statement on the Track World News podcast immediately led fans to speculate if Bromfield was his source. Bombing out of the 4×400 mixed relays didn’t help the Jamaican star’s case either. However, the 26-year-old seems to have impressed many with her latest appearance alongside her Olympic gold medalist boyfriend.
“She’s gorgeous, and that’s another WIN for @nojo18,” commented one fan on a video of a daredevil photoshoot featuring Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield. The Threads post by photographer Aladain Umar showed the 100m gold medalist and his Olympian girlfriend atop one of the tallest high rises in New York City.

While they didn’t disclose the location, the rooftop offered a brilliant view of the Big Apple’s skyline. The location offered sweeping views of Central Park on one side and the Empire State Building on the other. The couple even sat precariously atop a giant spinning contraption, proving vertigo isn’t an issue with either of them. However, that wasn’t the case with everyone.
Even watching the video of Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield’s risky photoshoot made a fan nervous. “Ooohhhhh! The way my vertigo is set up… Get DOWN!” a fan commented on the post. Although many appreciated the Jamaican track and field star’s incredible physique and outfit, some continued with the criticism. However, others stood up for Bromfield.
Fans defended Noah Lyles’ girlfriend
Many in the track and field community were happy to see the couple celebrate Noah Lyles’ success. Fans left compliments, such as, “She’s so fine,” on the post. However, others continued to berate the Jamaican, possibly due to her lackluster showing at the Paris Olympics. During the qualifying leg 4x400m mixed relay, the Jamaican squad finished in fourth place.
Meanwhile, the American team set a new world record. Jamaica has been a track and field powerhouse for the last two decades, and their performance didn’t go down well with fans. Some directly held Bromfield responsible for a poor anchor leg. “Junelle last 100m wasn’t ideal at all,” said one fan after the race. Some even called for her replacement.
It seems some netizens are yet to forgive the Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist, even when she is celebrating Noah Lyles’ achievement. However, the criticism directly may not have been completely fair. While the mixed relay team’s 3:11.06 second time didn’t land in the top three, it was a new Jamaican national record. This is why fans spoke up against the “misplaced” criticism.

“She’s an athlete and she’s beautiful. Y’all really have so much misplaced hate,” commented the Threads user, calling out others for the unwarranted criticism. Meanwhile, some of the critical comments may not have had something to do with Bromfield at all. As was evident by one comment. “Still don’t like the dude but W wife,” wrote the fan.

This individual admitted that he only disliked Noah Lyles and not Bromfield. Yet, others may not have been so forthcoming. Many in the track and field community dislike Lyles’ overtly-confident nature. The backlash has only intensified ever since Lyles took a shot at the NBA, saying NBA champs are not world champions. NFL athlete Tyreek Hill admitted to rooting against the defending world champion in the Olympics.
So while Junelle Bromfield stunned the track and field community with the unique hotshot, she also came in the crossfire of those who still dislike her boyfriend. So, what did you think of the couple and their daring photoshoot? Let us know your opinion in the comments section.
