The track and field world witnessed a lot of dark clouds looming over UK Athletics these past few months. Many of these clouds also tried to engulf its Olympic sprinter, Daryll Neita. But, despite almost being at the center of things, Neita acted smartly and saved herself from getting smeared by unwanted elements.

The Great Britain track and field athlete is fully immersed in training and is looking forward to dipping her toe in different events. The 100m specialist had already expressed a desire to run a 200m dash. Now, a social media post reveals that she will soon take another course length by storm, where she already has her mark.

A recent tweet on X posted a news highlight talking about Neita’s next move in track and field. The tweet carried the caption, “Daryll Neita 🇬🇧 is scheduled to run at Meeting de Paris over 60m on February 11th! During last year’s indoor season, she ran 7.05 and briefly held the British record.”

Neita is currently training under Italian coach Marco Airale. She was previously working with the US coach Rana Reider. But she had to part ways when investigations of s**ual assault and misconduct started against Reider. Neita didn’t like the way UK Athletics tried to bring its players back by threatening to cancel lottery funding. However, the track and field athlete wanted to focus on her game and be out of needless controversies.

Neita has won two Olympic bronze medals in the 4x100m relay races in 2016 and 2020. Her latest exploit came at the 2023 WAC in Budapest, where she had to settle for the bronze once again. Neita is aware of the current gap between her and the top players. However, she isn’t afraid of taking her shots at becoming a top track and field sprinter herself.

Track and field athlete shows great promise and resolve

While announcing her interest in the 200m category a few months ago, Neita had said, “I’m not scared to beat people, I want to be No. 1. I also know where the rankings are, I know who is running 10.6 and 10.7. I’m not there yet but I’m working towards it.” This says that while she is preparing herself for bigger things, she also has her eye on Sha’Carri Richardson and Shericka Jackson.

She also mentioned, “I’ve done a lot of 100 but not a lot of 200. This week was getting more practice at the event. I’m not bothered about people’s predictions, opinions, or validations.” Thus, while she’s currently stuck with bronze medals in relay events, she’s all set to power through her current shell. Will the track and field athlete be able to achieve what she desires in this Olympic year?
