The 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games are drawing to a close with the promise of offering smorgasbord spectacles and profusion of talents. With nearly 10,500 athletes participating in 329 medal events across 35 sports, the sporting world waits with bated anticipation. In light of the pinnacle moment in sports on November 21, 2023, the United Nations General Assembly came up with an Olympic Truce resolution to promote peace, dialogue, and reconciliation.

This was passed with 118 votes in favor of the resolution vetoed, effectively taking into account majority consensus. And now that the Olympic truce resolution has seen a positive success, Polish President Andrzej Duda has received a show of support from the International Olympic Committee.

In a recent post on X shared by IOC Media, the handle shared an exciting update with an image of the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, and the IOC President, Thomas Bach. The update highlighted the Polish President’s recent visit to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne, Switzerland. During his visit, the esteemed figures discussed Poland’s support for the Olympic Truce resolution for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024.

President Duda signed the IOC’s “Golden Book” and also thanked the IOC President for the warm welcome, saying, “I wish you success in promoting the values of the Olympic Movement so that the Games remain a symbol of peace and mutual respect in the spirit of the Olympic Charter.” During the visit, they had a tête-à-tête, the current geopolitical situation, and also shared endearing moments.

The fierce leaders share heartfelt camaraderie

President Duda introduced the IOC President, Thomas Bach, to an Olympian athlete from his very own security team. In a heartfelt gesture, the IOC President invited the athlete to sign the Olympians Wall, which is a recognition for athletes. Later, both the leaders toured the Olympic Museum, and the IOC President showcased some items donated by Polish athletes to President Duda.

Some of the items displayed to the Polish President included a mountain bike used by Maja Włoszczowska in Athens in 2004, spikes worn by Irena Szewinska in Montreal in 1976, and items from other accomplished Polish Olympians.
