This time, Engineer EMT Wilbert Hayes from Chicago met a tragic fate and lost his life. He was cherishing moments with his family at 31st Street Beach off duty.

Amidst the warmth of summer, the city grapples with the profound grief of a 43year old rescuer. As per Yahoo News, a devoted Chicago firefighter, who was fearlessly serving the community since 2009. Tragedy struck when Hayes went underwater while swimming at 7:30 am, despite the valiant efforts of rescue crews to bring him back said, Annette Nance-Holt, the Fire Commissioner. He was immediately taken to the Chicago Medical Center and regardless of the best efforts, the emergency team declared him dead.

As the first responder community grieves one of their own, the paramedics and officers join hands in honoring the life and service of the fallen hero in his procession. Along with this, the commissioner said, “The loss of any of our members is a loss for the first responder community and the city as a whole”. This second case comes as a big question for the safety of the Lake Michigan swimmers. A few days ago another loss of a young lady had already raised serious concerns in the swimming community.

Identified as Amy Kelts, a 20-year-old resident of Aurora, she was looking forward to a relaxing swim at Lake Michigan, but destiny had a different plan. An eyewitness reported seeing her struggling in the water around 8:30 pm on Wednesday before tragically disappearing beneath the surface.

The Chicago Police Department’s Marine Unit launched a rescue operation off Foster Beach, but the challenging water conditions hampered their efforts. The loss of this young life adds to the grief.
