At 3 p.m. on 23 August 2023, the Oak Island Police Department received word of a shark bite. Moreover, this incident occurred near the SE 46th Street beach access area where people come to enjoy the summer waves. While enjoying a swim in the shallows, the child was unexpectedly bitten on the shoulder by the shark. Interestingly, a family member recounted observing a “small fish jumping out of the water nearby” before the incident occurred.?
The ensuing moments saw the young one bitten on the front shoulder, presumably by a “not-so-big shark”. Instead of dialing 911, the family chose to rush the child to the hospital for medical attention.
