The history of Arizona State Sun Devils begins with its victories in the year 2008 when it won 31 of its 32 games and continues to this year’s NCAA Championship win. It has laid the foundations of its repetitive triumphs in swimming championships since then when it established the 56-5 record.
Traveling through their triumphant journey to date, the Sun Devils have etched their names in the history of swimming with the latest win they have had on the March 27-30 2024 NCAA season. While the star swimmer of Arizona State created his career-high record, the other team players also contributed equally to the team’s victory.
Leon Marchand’s victory, adds to his NCAA Championship records

A recent post on X determined the CEO of swimming (Twitter), Kyle Sockwell quoting, “From having the program cut in 2008 to winning the National Championship in 2024. What a story!” Considering the dignifying regular season of Arizona State (2008), the marvelous success rate the University has been delivering over the past years regarding swimming championships is one to be mentioned.

While Arizona State has had a great overall record in swimming championships, this year as well, it made a striking 523.5 record, beating California (444.5) in the 2024 Men’s Division I NCAA Championships. Conquering their first title in program history, Leon Marchand, a world champion in the long course 400m individual medley, has hugely contributed to the latest wins the team has been having. He broke his own NCAA record this time, with a 1:46:35 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Paris Olympics, as the only goal this season
As Leon Marchand established a US Open Pool record, the team’s head coach, Bob Bowman also became vocal about Marchand’s striking performances. “Reminding me of Michael (Phelps) in 2003“; Bob declared to Swim Swam last year. Amidst victory in the air, the well-renowned swimmers from Arizona State’s Sun Devils now aim to clinch the gold in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Constantly pushing his limits just as he steps into the pool, the Arizona swimmer also dominated the program’s first national NCAA championship title in the 400-yard IM with a 48.73 BR leading the top medley splits. Leon Marchand is thus setting up his mind with the pressure to inherit his new status in the Paris Olympics, which is quite likely.
