Universities are always on the lookout for potential talents. This is what attracted The Ohio State University to recruit Sandusky, Ohio native Charlie Clark. While attending Perkins High School, the talented freestyle swimming prodigy featured in four Ohio State Championship finals and also achieved USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors. Clark not only secured a 500 free runner-up position but also managed a fourth-place finish in the 200 free as a junior. The Ohio native is known for his distance swimming just like Katie Ledecky, who also prefers events like the 800m and 1500m freestyle, two events in which she also holds world records.

As for Clark, all his swimming stats impressed The Ohio State University and finally, they received an in-state verbal commitment from Charlie Clark starting from the 2020-21 season. Clark, who is known for his distance swimming, also revealed what motivated him to eventually choose the Bucks.

Why did Charlie Clark commit to The Ohio State University?

Before he committed to the Bucks, Charlie Clark used to swim throughout the year with the Vacationland Swim Club and also had 3 Summer Juniors standards to his name. Clark had also featured at the Cleveland Sectionals and won the 800m/1500m free combo. While in the Juniors East, the swimmer from Sandusky had also recorded the best time in the mile discipline.

He later announced his future plans and, according to a Swimming World Magazine report, Clark had said, ?I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to The Ohio State University! I chose OSU because of the coaching staff, the team atmosphere, and the vision they have for the program! GO BUCKS!!??Clark is enrolled in the Buckeyes’ class of 2024 and started his university training under Carson Burt and was selected particularly for his long-distance prowess. Over the years, the Ohio native has nurtured his swimming, and Clark is also set to represent the USA men’s swimming team at the 2023 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup.

The 2023 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup will be held over three legs that include Berlin, Athens, and Budapest as tournament venues and will also carry a significant amount for the winners. Out of the 13 athletes that will represent the United States in Berlin, 8 are male and Charlie Clark is one of them. However, that is not all. The Ohio State University athlete has also represented the USA in the past at both long-course and short-course world championships. In fact, recently, during the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Japan, the swimmer recorded a time of 14:57.16 and secured an 11th position in the 1500 discipline prelims.

Since joining The Ohio State University, Charlie Clark has participated in a number of high-profile competitions, including taking part in an Olympic Trial. Clark is now gearing up for a solid training session before Olympic Trials next June where he will be hoping to secure a place for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
