The US Open Swimming Championship 2023 has garnered attention for positive reasons. This year’s event will feature nearly all US swimmers who have earned medals in various competitions throughout the year, including the 2023 Fukuoka World Swimming Championship. Additionally, several swimmers who secured Olympic medals in Tokyo will also participate in this championship as a final preparation before the US Olympic trials. Moreover, this edition will highlight the swimmer who holds the most records in this championship.

Since 1985, the championship has seen several names who earned big later. Ryan Lochte is definitely one of them. But in the top position, someone appears entirely different. 

Katie Ledecky has the most US Open Swimming records

Katie Ledecky has shared the most number of records in the US Open Swimming Championship. She set tournament records in the 200m and 800m freestyle events while representing the Florida Gators. These records, established in 2021, have remained unbroken. Additionally, she holds records in the 400m and 1500m freestyle events, achieved in different years and while wearing different team colors.

She set a remarkable time of 1:55.47 in the 200m freestyle, and an impressive 8:12.81 in the 800m freestyle, both standing as enduring records. This year, Katie Ledecky would face Summer McIntosh again just like she did the previous year. The captivating rivalry between these two swimmers provided an unforgettable experience for their fans, especially in the highly competitive 400m freestyle event. Katie Ledecky was challenged to surpass her own 2021 record in order to secure victory over Summer McIntosh.

However, both of them will miss Ariarne Titmus this year. In the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Ariarne defeated the favorite Katie Ledecky to win the 400m freestyle. Meanwhile, in Fukuoka, she created a world record in the same event defeating Katie Ledecky. Apart from these, the seven-time Olympic champion might face tough competition against Siobhan Haughey in the 200m freestyle. The 26-year-old is in her best touch this year. Siobhan clocked 52.24 in the Budapest 200m freestyle. That was her fifth-best clocking this year.

Being the favorite, Katie Ledecky started this season on high octane. In Fukuoka, she has toppled Michael Phelps’s record of most number of individual world swimming titles. Her fans would want her to start her US Open journey on a similar note.
