Southern Massachusetts is currently experiencing an unexpected visitor phenomenon as bears have been spotted taking a dip in backyard swimming pools. Locals and authorities alike have been drawn to this unusual and infrequent occurrence, which has raised both awe and concerns for the safety of both citizens and these furry visitors.

In one recent incident, two kids were left alone at home in Hingham and found a bear swimming in their backyard pool to cool off. Being responsible, they followed the experts’ advice and remained inside to give the bear its space. They immediately got in touch with Hingham Animal Control to get help managing the situation.

Animal control officers promptly arrived at the scene and employed various methods, including clapping and making loud noises, to encourage the bear to vacate the pool area and return to its natural habitat. According to their mother Ernola Stefani, ?Animal control just made clapping sounds and hid and just yelled Bear Bear Bear.?? ?This particular bear is believed to be a young male that has been spotted in different locations across the South Shore over the past month. However, this isn?t the first time an incident like this is unfolding in the area.

Interestingly, another family in Pembroke captured a similar event on their Ring camera, where a bear was seen climbing into their above-ground pool. The resemblance in appearance and behavior has sparked speculation that this might be the same bear making rounds across South Shore pools, indulging in an adventurous summer tour. All bears seem to have a similar affinity for cool water and relaxation during the summer. Recently, a video of a bear relaxing in a backyard Jacuzzi in Southern California went viral, showcasing the resourcefulness of these amazing animals in looking for shade from the sun. After being coaxed out of the water by animal control, it continued its journey, with a neighbor, Mike Swiatkowski, capturing a heartwarming moment as the bear playfully leaped at a tree on its way out. Community members are advised to keep a safe distance from wandering bears state Division of Fisheries and Wildlife officials because, in most cases, the bear will return to the forest on its own.

In order to protect both their safety and the welfare of these wild animals, people are strongly advised against approaching bears or attempting to take pictures or videos with them. Property owners are advised to remove any food sources in residential areas, including bird feeders, garbage, and compost, to avoid potential conflicts with bears. By exercising such caution, locals can support the peaceful coexistence of people and wildlife.
