The swimming world was shocked this summer. This shock came after Olympic gold medalist Michael Andrew missed out on a 2023 World Championship berth in Fukuoka, Japan a few months ago. However, the American swimmer seems to be on a mission to redeem himself at the ongoing 2023 Swimming World Cup. During the Berlin leg of the competition, Andrew secured a first-place finish in the men’s 100m butterfly event with a time of 51.66 seconds while in the 50m freestyle event, the 24-year-old narrowly missed out on a top podium finish and had to settle for a second place with a time of 22.03 seconds.

As the first leg of the tournament ended, Andrew was ranked 4th overall in the men’s division, with a total of 54.5 points and prize money of $6,000. While Andrew has been putting in some great performances at the World Cup, outside the pool, the swimmer is letting his feelings known about the ongoing Israel-Hamas war through his social media.

Israel and Hamas are currently engaged in one of the deadliest wars in the past 50 years of their history. With multiple casualties on both sides, the shockwaves of this war are reverberating across the world. Olympic champion and U.S. swimmer Michael Andrew has also been vocal about the ongoing war through his social media. In fact, the Olympian recently shared a reel on his Instagram story that was meant to help anybody stuck in Israel and for others to help in funding rescuing operations.

The story was further captioned, “My friend @deanstott (former MI6) is boots on the ground in Israel. If there’s anyway you can help follow his links. If you’re in Israel and in need of help, can also DM him for assistance.” Through his social media post, Andrew urged his audience to help with donations if they could, and the Olympic champion also posted a number of other Instagram stories voicing his opinion about the ongoing situation in Israel. In the pool, Andrew continues to impress his fans, who can now hardly remember that the American even missed out on a world championship spot.

When Michael Andrew missed the 2023 Swimming World Championships

During the buildup to the 2023 Swimming World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, Michael Andrew was far out from his previous hot run of form. Andrew, who holds 7 world championship gold medals, had almost qualified for the tournament but had to be left out because of USA Swimming’s selection procedures. Looking back at the missed opportunity in a recent Swim Swam interview, Andrew said, There were a lot of things I was dealing outside of the pool emotionally spiritually that I just like, I think took away from my focus, which is a good thing to like, you know, miss the team and recognize now that had I not got through that experience I wouldn’t have learned from it.”
