The first paramount swimming competition of the Olympic year did not get to witness one of its reigning champions. After confessing, “I scratched the Knoxville Open this week due to a bout with sickness.“, 4x Olympic gold medalist, Ryan Murphy, pulled out of the TYR Pro Swim Series 2024. However, as Murphy took time off for his recovery, the swimmer’s American counterpart, Hunter Tapp made sure to clinch the podium finish.

In the men’s 200m backstroke, Hunter Tapp clinched gold with a time of 1:58.91 and left behind Daniel Diehl and Jack Aikins in the second and third positions respectively.

The backstroke phenom Ryan Murphy’s absence did not go unnoticed on day 3 of the TYR Pro Swim Series 2024. However, another American swimmer came out waving the country’s flag high. Hunter Tapp hopped on the opportunity and gave an influential performance. 

He swam like a bullet through the waters and touched the yellow line by clocking a time of 1:58.91. With this, he trounced compatriot Daniel Diehl who clocked a time of 1:59.16. In the third position was Jack Aikins, who bagged a bronze for himself with a time of 1:59.98.

This was a race worth watching however, the Ryan Murphy fans were missing their icon. They have been in dismay ever since the backstroke maestro announced that he is not participating in the event

Why did Ryan Murphy pull out from the first event of the season?

The American prodigy Ryan Murphy is known for his terrific excellence in backstroke events. The 4-time Olympic gold medalist did not participate in the first event of the swimming season due to his illness. He took to his X account to inform the same.

Murphy here wrote, “I’m taking my coach’s advice and focusing on rest and recovery”. Adding further he stated, “Thank you all for your support always!”

However, as the 2024 season unfolds, his fans are rooting for him and wish to see him in his best form ever.
