Any wartime situation is especially hard on the civilians who not only lose their homes but also their livelihoods. But such a time also tests an individual’s strength, character, and patriotism. Recently, a heroic swimmer in Israel lived up to these ideals as he took up arms against the Hamas incursion. His courageous act caught the attention of the world-class swimming sensation Michael Andrew, who was spellbound by his bravery and resilience.
As an elite swimmer, Michael Andrew has seen enough ups and downs to understand someone else’s plights. Therefore, when he saw this daredevil Israeli man defy death to protect his country, he could not stay silent.

Michael Andrew took some time off from his training for the opening day of the Swimming World Cup 2023 to call attention to an Israeli man’s dedicated service to his country. He posted an Instagram video of the youth from the base camp in the war zone. Andrew captioned the video, “On the front lines and still training for the pool. Man is built different”. His glorious commendations for the man went viral and brought more eyeballs to the video. In the short video, the man was carrying a rifle on his back as he knelt down on his knees with both arms in two buckets of water. Despite the harsh conditions in the surrounding areas, he had a smile on his face as he was in his element.
The man named Gabi Silverman identifies himself as a swimming coach. He put his two cents on the video, writing, “Pov: you’re a swimmer at war and don’t want to loose that feel for the water”. He was swirling the water in the buckets in a rhythmic motion to simulate the sensation of swimming. Michael Andrew took his example to heart and went on to register a stupendous win at the morning heats on October 13.
