The world of swimming is making a splash in the Middle East as the 2024 World Aquatics Championships are underway. Amidst the formidable global competition, Team USA’s swimming icon Kate Douglass has been making a resounding impact. She has already earned two gold medals for the nation, waving the American flag across the miles.

However, on Day 14 of the World Championships, the favorite among the American contenders faced a setback as a 23-year-old stole Kate Douglass’ spotlight in Doha.

According to World Aquatics, at Semifinal 2 of the 200 m breaststroke, Kate Douglass was outpaced by 23-year-old Tes Schouten of Bodergraven, Netherlands. A rising Dutch swimming star, Schouten, touched the wall in a blazing 2:21.50. With a +01.67 lag behind Tes Schouten, World Champion in the 200m individual medley, Kate Douglass made it to the podium, securing the silver medal in 2:23.17.

And in third place, Swiss swimmer Lisa Mamié clinched the bronze with a time of 2:24.62. Despite the upset for Kate Douglass, she has still managed to secure a spot in the finals. How Douglass won her second World Championship title and another one

In a déjà vu moment and defending her 2023 World Championship title, Kate Douglass secured her second consecutive world championship title in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on February 12, 2024, in Doha. With a personal best time of 2 minutes, 7.05 seconds, Kate surged to the finish line, leaving a field of eight powerful contenders trailing. She even earned a personal best time of 2 minutes, 7.05 seconds.

Following this win, in the Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay on February 14, 2024, Douglass anchored the USA team to victory once more. The American team, consisting of American swimming icons, Hunter Armstrong, Nic Fink, Claire Curzan, and Kate Douglass, clinched the gold medal in the relay with a winning time of 3 minutes, 40.22 seconds.
