The wave of excitement can take a big turn anytime, & the recent updates from the sports world are a true testament to that. Recently, NBC’s decision to abandon coverage of USATF in America has already given big jerks to the track & field world. Following this British Broadcasting Corporation also delivered an unexpected announcement on the “Final agreement of live coverage“. BBC revealed that they won’t be broadcasting the World Swimming Championships on free-to-air TV in Britain in 2023.

This double blow for sports fans has left enthusiasts wondering why two major broadcasters have opted out of covering such prestigious events. These decisions have impacted fans’ ability to witness the thrilling competitions they eagerly await.

Saddening news for the Swimming world

According to BBC News, commentator, and former Olympic medalist, Andy Jameson, made the regrettable announcement via Twitter. Jameson has been pretty active on his social and has recently taken to Twitter to share a recent update on the final agreement.

He writes, “Very sadly, @BBCSport and @WorldAquatics has not been able to reach a financial agreement to show the World Swimming Championships on free-to-air TV in Britain, so the BBC will not be covering it this year. Incredibly disappointing for the sport we love.”

The much-awaited 2023 World Aquatics Championships have been underway since July 14 and will continue until July 30. However, the most anticipated swimming events (open water swimming, artistic swimming, diving, and water polo) are yet to begin, scheduled to kick off on July 23.

World Aquatics’ decision to remove the United Kingdom from their “Where to Watch From?Europe” page on their website only added to the disappointment. While no official statement was released, this move spoke volumes about the reality of the situation. Fans across Britain were faced with the letdown of missing out on the thrilling competitions that grace the World Championships. But, amidst this disappointment, there’s still a glimmer of hope for ardent swimming enthusiasts.

Finding alternatives for watching the live event

BBC 5 Live Sport, a popular radio station, confirmed that they will provide live swimming coverage. Although not the same as watching on TV, radio commentary has a way of bringing the excitement of the event right into the ears of devoted fans, thanks to the skilled sports commentators who make it come alive. For those in the Western hemisphere, it’s essential to keep in mind that the meet starts on July 23rd in Fukuoka.

However, due to different time zones, it will start on the evening of July 22nd for some viewers at their respective local times. In the United States, Peacock, a popular streaming service, will be covering the live event.
