The swimming world was amped up for the upcoming US Open Championships in Greensboro. However, an unfortunate incident has deteriorated the energy of many enthusiasts, as the triple World Champion and 400 IM World Record holder Leon Marchand withdrew his name from the championship roster.

In the wake of an undisclosed illness, the French swimming prodigy catered to this decision and walked out of the championships, leaving his fandom to ponder over his performances if he could have stayed in the turquoise turf.

Leon Marchand will not be participating in the US Open Championships which will be held from the 29th of November to the 2nd of December at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in North Carolina. According to SwimSwam, this news was announced by his coach Bob Bowman. This decision has been made due to an illness that created obstruction in his competition at last weekend’s NC State Invitational.

His coach expressed, “Just makes sense for now to get back into training and move forward from there”. Her further added, he is doing well physically. However, this entire 2023 season has been a treat for the French swimmer. He has proved his worth with every jump he made in the water in all the events he participated in.

The swimming phenom world record holder is a junior at the Arizona State. This 21-year-old has grabbed multiple achievements and excels in almost all the competitions. He has had a great 2023 season.

Léon Marchand surpassed Michael Phelps’ long-standing 15-year record at the Fukuoka 2023 World Aquatics championships. The 21-year-old won in the men’s 400m individual medley (IM) with a record of 4:02.50, shattering Phelps’ last-standing individual world record at the 2008 Beijing Olympics by 1.34 seconds.

Adding to it, he won the 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM at the 2023 World Championships, repeating as winner in both IM events. He was given the title of the best male swimmer at this championship along with Kaylee Mckeown on the 30th of July. Now, after this withdrawal from the US Open, his admirers are on their toes to witness what he brings to the table next.
