Ryan Lochte is an American Swimmer who debuted at the Olympics in the 2004 Olympics. Lochte has been surrounded by controversies at several points in his career. The recent one was the 2016 Rio Olympics incident where he lied about being robbed in the Rio Olympics when he went out. As a result, he got suspended by the US Olympic Committee.

However, other than the controversies, Lochte has brought many gold medals from the Olympics and World Championships as well. He has clinched 12 Olympics medals which include six gold, three silver, and three bronze medals. In 2012, before entering the London Olympics, Lochte revealed a weird incident from the Beijing Olympics in an interview with Ryan Krogh.
Ryan Lochte revealed the funny dare he did in Beijing
Ryan Lochte is one of the most successful swimmers in the US. He competed in four Olympics and managed to win medals in every Olympics he competed. Moreover, his most successful Olympics was the 2008 Beijing Olympics for him, where he won five medals. In the 2012 interview, Lochte revealed an incident from the 2008 Olympics and how he got robbed after that.
Krogh asked, “What’s the story with the diamond teeth grill you always wear on the podium?” To which Lochte replied, “It started in 2007 as a dare. I had these grills in my bag—I don’t even know how I got them—and I pulled them out and showed a friend. He was like, ‘Oh man! If you get a medal, bro, you gotta wear those.’ The next day I won a medal, and I wore them out there. It was the funniest thing.”

As a follow-up question, Krogh asked, “Rumor has it you lost one while partying in Beijing.” Lochte said, “I think the damn cleaning lady took it! I was so mad.”
The arch rivalry between Phelps and Lochte
Like any other sport, a person or a team surely has a competitor who gives tough competition to the opponent and keeps the heat on. In swimming, legendary Michael Phelps had the biggest competitor from the US itself. Ryan Lochte always stood as a close competitor to Phelps throughout his career.

After years of patience, Lochte finally defeated Phelps in the 2011 World Championships. By taking his coach’s advice into account, Lochte gave the push at the 100m mark rather than waiting for the last lap. Indeed, it helped him take the lead, and more importantly, he managed to keep the lead till the end. Lochte once said, “I used everything I had, and I was able to win that race.”
