There was a time when Serena Williams and Michael Phelps participated in the same Olympics. Though the two were part of the same entourage, they hardly got a chance to interact and meet. Being an Olympic Gold medalist and athlete of such high caliber, one might assume that the two of the greatest of their sport may be best friends. But the reality stands otherwise. Even though the two have never officially met, there’s no compromise on the respect that they have for each other.

Serena is one of the most dominant names on the tennis court. She not just have multiple records in her name but has also introduced dynamism to the sport. Being the strong-headed woman that she is, the mother of one never shied away from expressing herself. Praising Phelps for creating havoc at the 2012 London Olympics, the 23-time Grand slam winner had a lot to say.

When Serena could not stop herself from praising Michael Phelps

The 2012 London Summer Olympics was a great success for Michael. The swimming GOAT was securing gold at almost all the events. Continuing his legacy, ‘The Flying Fish‘ won four gold and two silver medals. Fellow athlete Serena Williams, who at that time was competing in the Olympic tennis competition at Wimbledon, took note of him.

Praising him for his accomplishments, the tennis GOAT described ?Phelps as “the ultimate Olympian.” Being an athlete, she could not help but wonder how he did that. Expressing herself, the retired tennis star then exclaimed, “I mean, who does that?”

Having seen no one do the same, Serena could not help but remark, “No one else could do that. It’s insane.”?Though the two are part of the U.S team, owning to their professional commitments, they never got a chance to interact.

The nearly missed encounter of the two GOATs

During the 2012 Olympics, Serena finally had the golden opportunity to meet Phelps. The two were in the Olympic village carrying their daily routine when the tennis star spotted Phelps. However, she was too ‘shy’ to approach ‘The Baltimore Express.’

She confessed,?“I was in the [Olympic] Village the other day, and I passed by him, and I’m really shy.” Preoccupied with his work, even Phelps missed out on seeing Serena. She further added, “And he didn’t see me, so ?.” It was surprising for the fans to realize how shy their favorite tennis star in real life was. Having seen her dominate on the court, the fans were introduced to a different side of their favorite.
