What no one could have imagined a year ago is set to take place on Wednesday in the Australian Open. 18-year-old Coco Gauff is all set to face Emma Raducanu, the winner of the 2021 US Open. Since the young Gauff will compete against such a reputed tennis player at an early stage of her career, she shared how she was training for the much-awaited second-round match.
While talking about her preparation phase, Coco majorly talked about how playing pre-season sports made the process much more enjoyable. The American WTA star then made a bizarre confession about swimming, to mostly explain how she got along with the water sport.

In a column for BBC Sport, Gauff shared that growing up, she played multiple sports like basketball, gymnastics, and track. However, her trainer also made her swim, although she was not great at the sport. Coco told BBC “For me, swimming is one of those things which gets me the most tired.”
The reason why Gauff and her fitness coach were trying to find extra ways to get her tired. Apparently, because her “heart rate doesn’t stay high for long”. The tennis star shared that while she could do boxing as well, and run forever, it was swimming that made her tired after just two laps.
The young tennis player shared that it was important to warm up the body with multiple games. It assures long-lasting fitness for the coming years as well. Moreover, pre-season training is a great chance to enjoy the process of stepping away from radical workout regimes. Gauff stated that ditching the tennis court and gym, to play multiple sports was always a fun activity for her. Her penchant for boxing, however, was completely different.

While preparing for her second-round match with Can Raducanu, Coco’s trainer made her practice boxing. The trainer wanted her to box to improve her balance. Although previously, she had great boxing experiences with legend Mike Tyson, she stated that she was not a natural fighter. She assumed so because she self-reflected that, “If someone came up and punched me I would be out first punch”.
She shared another hilarious incident of her boxing with fighters at proper gyms. During her pre-session training, when she had to share the gym with pro fighters, she would don her tennis gear and talk really loudly, saying “‘yeah my tennis tournament”. This ensured people knew she was a novice and not cut out for boxing matches.
