Swimming is a fun activity as long as it is practiced under guidance and in a safe arena. Just a simple negligence and one can fall into the most horrific situation. Drowning is one of the leading factors causing unintentional death in America. On average 3500 to 4000 people drown per year in different states of the US.?

New York is one of the states to report frequent drownings in different cities. From Coney Island Beach to resorts and famous waterfalls, all have reported several drowning death cases. The state has reported at least one drowning case in each month of 2023. Recently, one more tragic news came to light when a teenager died from an apparent drowning in the Fawns Leap waterfall.???

The tragic death of a Brooklyn teenager after drowning

On 8th August 2023, a 16-year-old boy from Brooklyn was swimming with his group of friends. After spending a little time on the cliff, the teen jumped from the ledge with one of his friends. They both landed in the swimming hole below the waterfall and started struggling to reach the surface. According to the Greene County Sherriff?s Office, the teens were caught in the hydraulic current and began panicking. A swimmer saw them struggling in the water and he instantly rushed towards them to help.?

 

Despite his diligent efforts, he could not save the 16-year-old boy and only rescued the other teen. A team of divers, swimmers, state police, and the Athens fire department from the County was sent to the scene to recover the body.? According to the CBS6 News, they soon found the body and pronounced him dead at 3:30 pm. And this was not the first time when someone struggled in the swimming hole. Last month, a similar incident was reported from the Fawn?s Leap area.?

The Fawn?s Leap swimming adventure turns into a serious terror

With a 25 feet high waterfall and 12-15 feet depth, the Fawn?s Leap has become a thrilling destination for adventurers. And social media influencers often post photos and videos enjoying the waterfall. But the place is notorious for its many tragic cases. According to the Times Union, last month an adventurer was stuck in the swimming hole and injured himself. He was later pulled out by a rescue team who went inside the cliff to locate him. Prior to that, 16 people were rescued from the area and nearby Rat?s Hole on Kaaterskill Creek when the area was flooded by a downpour.?

Fawn?s Leap area is certainly an aesthetic destination, but it has also reported several terrifying cases. In this recent incident, a teen entered the swimming hole with his friend, but the teen could not make it out of the water. And after an investigation, they stated that the teen died from an apparent drowning. Due to the sensitivity of the case, the teen?s identity is not revealed and a current investigation is underway.?
