When Deborah Phelps walked the aisle with Michael Fred Phelps in 1973, she could hardly have imagined that her “forever wasn’t going to be long.” Years after blissful marriage, in 1994, the pair decided to part ways. With Fred moving out, Debbie was left to care for her three young kids alone. Much like his mother and elder sisters, things were not easy for young Michael Phelps.

Though the roads they took were different, their love and respect for each other never subsided. Like every time, this time too, the Phelps family holds onto each other in their times of grief as Senior Phelps leaves for his heavenly abode.

Phelps’ mother mourns her ex-husband’s demise?

Time changes, equation changes, and people move ahead with their lives, but there’s one thing that remains forever! ‘Memories’ irrespective of the situation, time, and place memories accompany us. Good or bad, they hold a special place in our hearts. When Hilary posted her picture with her dad and paid him a tribute, she lingered on the photo to comfort herself.

As prayers and wishes poured in, there was one comment nestled between the other comments that took everyone’s attention. Breaking her silence for the first time, Debbie Phelps took to the comment section of her eldest daughter’s post. Sharing her grief and mourning her husband’s demise, she?wrote,?“Moments to reflect upon that one holds forever in your heart.”

Indeed the ‘moments’ can not be erased, for they are forever engraved in our hearts. Undeniably, the time is difficult for the Phelps family. Friends and fans extend their support and prayers as the family mourns the unexpected loss.

Michael Phelps’ mother talked about her relationship

Back in 2009, Debbie shared her experiences as a single mother in a phone interview with The Associated Press. A principal by profession, in the said interview, she also talked about her relationship with her ex-husband, Fred. She said, “he was like my knight in shining armor.” Talking about their love story, she added,?“He was my high school sweetheart. We were together a long time.”

However, things did not go as planned. She soon realized, “when you get married, sometimes, instead of growing closer, you grow apart. That happens in a lot of marriages around the country and probably around the world.” She confessed that she did not expect such an unfolding of events. But she was aware that she had no control. She walked ahead with life, with ‘moments’ engraved in her heart!
