Not often do athletes get kicked out of the Olympic Village. However, in a recent turn of events, the Paraguayan Olympic Committee sent Luana Alonso home after reports emerged of her causing an ‘inappropriate atmosphere’ with her behavior. The talented swimmer failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the swimming butterfly events. Later, she suddenly announced her retirement from the sport. However, the real news became her banishment from the Paris Olympic Village.

The Paraguayan Olympic Committee, with the help of the officials, informed her to vacate the village for causing ‘distraction.’ According to reports from Daily Mail, her clothing style and socializing with other athletes caused a distraction, owing to her exit from the village. Thus, fans took to social media to voice their opinions.

Moreover, Alonso walked around in her own outfits, which caused a stir among the Paraguayan team chiefs, who had designated special apparel for the athletes. Meanwhile, she took a trip to Euro Disney, posting pictures of Mickey Mouse ears and soaking in the sun. With around 600,000+ followers on her social media handle, she posted snaps of various restaurants and high-end boutiques. Nevertheless, fans had divergent viewpoints regarding the matter and shared them on X.

After the news of her being kicked out of the village came across, she shocked fans by announcing her retirement from the sport at 20. After failing to qualify for the butterfly semi-final events, Luana Alonso decided to call it quits. So a user was dumbfounded by her decision and stated, “Why would you retire at age 20??” While the retirement announcement shocked many fans, the committee’s decision also garnered attention.

Paraguayan swimmer’s fans in shock

One user pointed out how most Olympic committees send their athletes home after competing in events. Although some stay behind for the closing ceremony, most athletes leave the Olympic Village after their events. While some kick back and relax to enjoy the vibrant city, others like Luana Alonso apparently cause distractions. The user quickly pointed that out by stating, “The athletes that remain at the village are still competing and she was probably creating a distraction. Most countries ask their athletes to leave once done competing.”

In a unique take, one fan exclaimed how she became a marketing genius with this move. With over 600,000 followers, the move could help her to gain more followers after attracting eyeballs. The user stated, “Making more on Instagram than she will swimming. Chess move and great marketing tactic by her.”

Another user complained about the Olympic Village being strict with athletes. The user wanted the organizers to keep the athletes in hotels rather than in rigorous conditions. The user pointed out, “Why are the Olympic villages so strict like why don’t they just stick them in hotel rooms and let them do whatever like every other professional sport.” In the meantime, some athletes left the village because low-quality facilities made it hard for them to be in the same mindset.
