A sixteen-year-old American competitive swimmer, Thomas Heilman, was seen performing some heavy lifting on stage. The young ‘shooting star’ secured Gold in Hawaii in the 100 fly (51.98), 41 X 100 free (WJR, 3:15.79), and medley relays. Thomas also holds some more NAG records in the Winter Junior Nationals. His swimming coach asserts that Thomas is always intrigued to know different things about swimming and always wills to put more effort into growing his pace in water.
Now Thomas Heilman has made it to the headlines worldwide by beating the record of the swimming GOAT and most decorated Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps. Not only the swim enthusiasts but Heilman prompted to stun the world by breaking Phelps record at National age group record on the very first day of his US Swimming Championships. A recent post on Twitter by another swimmer Yanyan Li shared her surprise about Heilman’s record-breaking achievement.

At the age of just 15, Michael Phelps made it for the Olympic teams in 2000 Sydney, becoming the youngest man in the USA to qualify in 68 years. In 2009, Sean Ryan was the only 16-year-old male to make for the Open Water swimmer. However, Ryan was a little older than Phelps and fell short of setting the record. Phelps’s record was nothing short of extraordinary and stood firm for more than two decades.

Phelps’s record was 1:54:58 in the men’s butterfly, which Thomas Heilman shattered at 1:54:54 in Indianapolis. Heilman secured the record for men’s in 200m butterfly. However, the first position was secured by Carson Foster by 1:52:32. The Twitter post by Yanyan Li quoted, “Thomas Heilman (age 16 years, 4 months, 20 days) just became the youngest male American to make an Olympic or Worlds roster since Michael Phelps in 2000!” demonstrating the great record of Heilman. Heilman’s all-over performance in the Heat sheet was praiseworthy.

Along with the record-breaking performance, Heilman reserved his personal best of 1:55:11 in the prelims, which outran his previous best of 1:56:52 in men’s 200 fly. The young rising scorer was 24.46 in 50 fly, 54.20 in 100 fly, and 1:00:34 in 100 fly Spit in the 2023 Phillips 66 National Championships. Overall, Heilman outshined his fellow competitors by taking over the world record in NAG, now the record for the 15 -16 group for top five stands as Michael Phelps and Thomas Heilman dominate the rank, which is followed by Luca Urlando, Andrew Seliskar, and Matt Fenlon. The event of the World Championships continues in Fukuoka, Japan.
