The 2024 Doha Worlds have been ushering in new world swimming champions in the Olympic year 2024. An array of swimming stars have gone head-to-head to clinch the coveted titles. Among them, Kate Douglas of Team USA stunned the world as she defended her 2023 World Championship title in the 200 IM. Showcasing her talent again, she earned another gold as part of the mixed 4x100m medley relay Team USA along with Nic Fink, Hunter Armstrong, and Claire Curzan. However, as the competition progressed, Kate Douglass faced major upsets in the Day 6 finals not once but twice!

Kate Douglass makes it to the podium at Doha Worlds again

At the 200-meter breaststroke finals at the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships, an array of icons battled it out for the coveted world title. While American fans hoped Kate Douglass would clinch the World Championship title this year, Tes Schouten from the Netherlands came in first place, outpacing the icon Kate Douglass. Tes Schouten earned the podium gold at a time of 2:19.81, earning 952 points.

However, despite not winning gold, Kate Douglass still managed to podium and secure second place and a silver medal with a time of 2:20.91, trailing behind the winner by 1.10 seconds and accumulating 930 points. And lastly, Sydney Pickerem of Canada claimed a third place in the 2024 World Cup with a time of 2:22.94, finishing 3.13 seconds after the winner and amassing 891 points. This silver win for Douglass came after she faced a considerable setback earlier in the Day 6 finals.

Another disappointing finish for Douglass in the Day 6 finals

In the women’s 100-meter freestyle event held on February 16, 2024, at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, all eyes were once again on Kate Douglass and seven other formidable competitors aiming to earn the World Gold. However, Kate Douglass failed to podium as Marrit Steenberg of the Netherlands claimed first place in the women’s 100m freestyle, finishing with an impressive time of 52.26 seconds. In second place, Siobhan Bernadette Haughey, representing Hong Kong, secured the silver medal, locking in at 52.56 seconds, just 0.30 seconds behind the winner.

And in third place, Shayna Jack from Australia clinched the bronze, posting a time of 52.83 seconds, trailing the leader by 0.57 seconds. Kate Douglass finished fourth in the women’s 100-meter freestyle event at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, completing the race in 53.02 seconds and 0.76 seconds behind the winner.
