However, glory comes with its own fair share of problems. Italian swimmer, Linda Cerruti had to go through such harsh effects of her success recently.

Linda Cerruti won multiple medals at the European Aquatics Championships. She is famous for participating in synchronized swimming. However, the World Aquatics Championships in 2022 became the highlight of her career as she produced her best performance. But a flurry of harsh and inappropriate comments on her celebratory picture left her heartbroken.

The champion swimmer won 6 medals at the World Aquatics Championships in 2022. Winning 6 Silver medals at a World Championship event in Rome was one of the best performances of her career. Recently. she posted a picture of herself doing a headstand while displaying the medals that she had won at the world championships. “The photo depicts me in an artistic pose, typical of my sport, upside down and split, along with the eight medals won in what is the best European Championship of my career,” said Linda describing the photo that she posted.

The picture became a topic of discussion. Many media portals shared it on their Facebook pages. The Olympic champion swimmer was left heartbroken by receiving sexist, indecent, and vulgar comments. She expressed her anguish at the unacceptable comments under her victory image and said, “I am literally shocked and disgusted.“

The jokes that people made about her body seem to have disgusted Linda. Moreover, she mentioned how people disregarded the hard work that she had done for the past 20 years. However, she thanked the people who distanced themselves from such comments and hoped to represent Italy on the world stage once again.

Linda’s notable performances

The star synchronized swimmer has been participating in championships at the international level since 2010. Cerruti is an athlete of the ‘Gruppo Sportivo della Marina Militare,’ which is the sports division of the Italian navy. Throughout the years Linda has participated in multiple events. Linda’s first medal at the European Aquatics Champions was in 2014 in Berlin, where she won the bronze medal. Thereafter she won multiple medals at the preceding European Championships.

However, her best performance came in 2022 at the European Aquatics Championships held in Rome. Linda won 6 silver medals and 2 bronze medals at the event. She improved her record by 2 silver and 5 bronze medals which she set at the European Aquatics championships back in 2018.
