A Tragic Day at Pirate Cove Water Park
Dark clouds hovered over Pirate Cove Water Park when a 12-year-old boy was discovered lifeless in the pool one morning. At approximately 7 a.m., Council Bluffs police and fire departments received a distressing call of a “man down” at the pool. According to the daily NonPareil News, Responders rushed to the scene and found the young boy submerged in the pool’s waters. It was discovered when an employee who was arriving early for work spotted the lifeless body in the deep end.
Initial investigations indicate that the victim had scaled the pool’s fence. The boy gained unauthorized access while the facility had closed for the season and remained off-limits over the weekend. Security footage corroborated the entry, with the boy seen climbing the fence to access the pool. Tragically, it appears he met his end in the deep end of the pool which led to succumbing to drowning. The authorities, led by Sgt. John Focht has ruled out foul play.
The victim’s identity remains withheld at the family’s request. However, it is only known that the youngster was a pupil at Woodrow Wilson Jr. High School. Post the declaration of child death, the authorities mentioned, “It is with a heavy heart that I share that we are mourning the death of a new Wilson student“. He offered counseling and therapy services to support the grieving family and students during this difficult period. But this is not the only case in this month. Another heart-wrenching incident unfolded in the swimming community as a 5-year-old boy lost his life during a swimming session.
