12-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte is the second most celebrated swimmer in the world after Michael Phelps. At 38, he is going strong and planning to win a few more titles before retiring. On Saturday, Lochte indulged in a noble cause by teaming up with his father Steven R. Lochte, who has also coached him for years.

He expressed his gratitude in an Instagram post thanking the sport for bringing him so far. Let’s dive deeper into the event.
Ryan Lochte and his father on a noble cause
Ryan Lochte and his father had a strained relationship after Lochte’s parents separated in 2011. Over the years, however, both have developed a great bond together. Recently, Ryan and Steven collaborated on a swim clinic in Steven’s coaching class, Legacy Swimming. He runs it as a medium for young swimmers to interact and learn more about the sport from international swimmers and coaches.

The swimming champion was ‘blessed’ to be able to give back to the swimming community. Sharing a few moments from the insightful day, Lochte expressed his gratitude on Instagram:
“So blessed that swimming has taken me so far to the point where I can give back and help the younger generation. Had a blast doing a swim clinic with my dad and @legacyswimming down in Boca Florida today! @tyrsport”
Lochte enlightened the young swimmers about several aspects of swimming. He taught them a couple of drills that included swimming strokes and then continuing the backstroke. Lochte also made the budding swimmers compete to see how many could do it perfectly.
Ryan Lochte’s estranged relationship with his mother
While his parents went through their separation, Lochte sided with his mother Ileana Lochte. However, his family dynamics changed when Ryan told his mother that she was going to be a grandmother. According to him, she told very hurtful things to him.

In an interview with People’s Magazine in 2020, Lochte stated:
“She just said some things to me and my wife, but I mean, I can get over it, but I just want an apology from her. And she said that she’ll never apologize.”
