Though with time, many of his records were broken, there’s one record that remains untouched even today. His wife Nicole is elated as Phelps’ record achieves one crucial milestone.

Showering her love and excitement, Nicole takes to her Instagram stories. Sharing the exciting news that Nicole remarked as “laugh and pure amazement,” the mother of three beamed with pride.

Re-sharing the story that was earlier posted by Phelps’ coach and father figure Bob Bowman, Nicole requested her Instagram followers to scroll through the post. Time traveling back to 2002 when Phelps, for the first time, broke Tom Dolan’s record to secure the fastest 400 Individual Medley, Nicole again re-lived the moments.

For the unversed, the first world record in 400-meter IM was recognized by FINA in 1957. Since then, Gary Heinrich, Ian Black, Ted Stickles, Dick Roth, and many others have held the record. But it’s the swimming GOAT Michael Phelps who has held the record for the longest time. Breaking his own record multiple times from 2002 to 2008 till date, his record remains unmatched. Though many came close to breaking it, none could succeed.

As a proud coach, Bowman shared his pupil’s incredible achievements with his Instagram family. Seeing the astonishing feat, Bowman had no better way to describe Phelps than addressing him as a GOAT. Since Phelps’ initial days at the pool, Bob has been right beside him. From making it to the qualifiers to securing gold at the Olympics, the duo has traveled a long way. Thus, reflecting Phelps’ achievement is not just the result of his hard work alone. The guidance of coach Bowman remains unmatched.

Phelps has held his record for 20-plus years now; the incredible feat was recognized by the official Instagram profile of the Last One Fast One Podcast. Sharing the exciting news, the post acknowledged how Phelps broke the records multiple times during his professional years but gave no room for others to take him over.

That said, “he’s?held the record uninterrupted for 7,648 days (and counting).” An incredible feat. On August 15, 2002, he broke the record. Since then, Phelps has registered more wins to his name. He has now retired but remains a strong advocate of the sport. Phelps now prefers to spend his time with his wife and three kids.
