Phelps’ love for golf is a public secret. Since his first retirement in 2012, he has often been seen on the course with fellow golf pros. As his love for the game grew deeper, he once revealed in an interview why golf holds a special place in his heart.
When Michael Phelps opened up on his love for golf
Once Michael gave an interview on his retirement before turning 30. During the interview, the host questioned him about the difference between pool and golf. Phelps called the swimming pool ‘pretty sick’ while stating some points about golf grass.
Phelps said, “I think one of the cool things I really enjoy about the sport is everywhere you go, it’s a different course you know for when I was swimming, pools are pretty sick. I saw a 50-meter pool; the temperature was the exact same depth, exactly same like you know like there was nothing different. So here it’s, you know, where the fairways are different, the grass is different, how many bunkers there are, how deep they are, you know, there are so many differences in every single golf course.”
He further elaborated, “So I think that’s something that keeps it even more exciting a more challenging.”
Does Phelps hold any record in golf?
Phelps originally holds the record for “longest televised putt,” in golf. Even for other golfers like Tiger Woods and Tom Watson, it was a tremendously shocking achievement. Since his retirement in 2016, Phelps has spent a lot of time playing golf with his wife, Nicole Johnson, and friends.
