Cody Simpson has a bunch of meaningful tattoos on his body. Some of them are quite famous, like the trident tattoo on his upper arm that he got with his ex-girlfriend Miley Cyrus. On the right inner forearm, he has a thunderbird tattoo to signify his indomitable spirit that helped him dominate both the stage and the pool. He also has a bust of Apollo on the back of his right arm that he made in 2019.

Interestingly, the 26-year-old popstar and swimmer used the platform of the Swimming World Cup 2023 to reveal the significance of this tattoo. Cody Simpson’s best performance came on the second day of the Athens meet of the Swimming World Cup 2023. He shared a picture of himself before the race that bared his tattoo and underscored his marvellous performance.

Cody Simpson posted a picture of himself before the 100-meter butterfly finals. In the picture, he was stretching his arms to limber up before the challenging race. During one of the postures, his Apollo tattoo was visible.

In the Instagram story, he revealed its significance with the caption, “Apollo, the calm & the rational”. Cody Simpson got the tattoo on December 1, 2019, one month after returning to swimming. He joined the University of Southern California’s Trojan Swim Elite team and trained under coach Dave Salo.

In October 2019 he swam the 100-yard butterfly at the college meet and finished in the 24th position. Since then, he has been improving his time constantly and the result is reflected in his electrifying finish at the Swimming World Cup 2023.

Cody Simpson has lived by the ideals of his Apollo tattoo. Despite many harrowing falls, he did not become despondent and carried on working on himself. His coach, Dave Salo, has stayed with him during the last few years of hardship and motivated him to pursue his passion.

Cody Simpson got his first big win at the 2022 Australian Short Course Championships, where he earned two gold medals and one silver. However, his greatest moment of swimming glory came in Athens on the second day of the Swimming World Cup 2023.

Cody Simpson wins silver in the 100-meter butterfly final

Cody Simpson tied with the American ace, Michael Andrew for the 100-meter butterfly silver. Both breakout stars finished the two laps of the 50-meter pool in 51.92 seconds. South African swimmer took the gold medal with a narrow lead of 0.10 seconds. This was the first time that he made the podium in an international podium and was happy to be in elite company.

After the race, he said, “(My goal is to) just get faster every time…So far I’m able to do that incrementally. I’m over here for experience on the international stage. To be up here on a podium with these guys who I’ve loved their swimming for years is very cool”. With his foot firmly set in the sport, he will continue to make big waves going forward.
