The Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships witnessed an electrifying ending during the Day 2 finals on Monday, February 12. From the men’s 100 breaststroke to the women’s 100 breaststroke, the men’s 200 freestyle, and many others, swimming fans were given a nail-biting tantalizer. However, it was the men’s 100-meter breaststroke that truly shook the swimming world.

Two icons, America’s Nic Fink and the two-time Olympic champion in the 100-meter breaststroke, competed fiercely for the world title. Victory shone on America after nearly 17 years in the event, as Fink left Peaty trailing. But, despite the blazing win, fans of swimming were left divided between the favorites of the race.

At the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships, Nic Fink led from the beginning as Adam Peaty, the eight-time world champion and two-time Olympic champion, tried to catch up. However, Peaty seemed to tire out in the second half of the race, allowing Fink to maintain his lead and secure the gold medal. Nicolo Martinenghi of Italy claimed silver, while Adam Peaty took home bronze.

In an Instagram post, World Aquatics shared a blazing photo of Fink showing off his biceps from the pool. The caption of the post read, “LOOK AT THIS 💪 Nic Fink is the new Men’s 100m Breaststroke World Champion!” While this announcement brought joy to many, several fans expressed sadness for the English icon, Adam Peaty.

Internet left divided over the win of Nic Fink

Swimming fans flooded the comment section of the post with mixed emotions. While many expressed admiration for the American World Swimming Champion, Nic Fink, others lamented Peaty’s loss. One fan wrote, “PEAAAAAAATY😢” which simply highlighted their sadness. Another wrote, “PEATY NOOOOO 😭😭😭” also hoping the 29-year-old, who marked his return to competition, would have clinched gold. One fan in disbelief even shared, “Ain’t no Peaty lost.” However, many fans were also thrilled at the showdown Nic Fink provided.
