At just 23 years of age, Maggie Mac Neil can boast of having an Olympic gold medal and two world records in swimming in her bag. So before the Paris Olympics 2024, the Canadian swimmer is eyeing making another history in the pool. However, Maggie Mac Neil knows her uphill task to seal a berth in the national swimming team before that.

After a dismantled 2022 season, this task might demand a better self for her to stay on the other side of the rope. But a swimmer akin to her only knows how to propel herself to the next level, even after physical constraints. That didn’t go out of the sight of Panam Sports. The sporting authority recently took the occasion to garner her a coveted title. 

Maggie Mac Neil wins the Best Female Athlete award

On December 9, Panam Sports conferred Maggie Mac Neil with the title of this year’s Best Female Athlete award. In its Instagram post, the amenable Panam Sports narrated the reason as “raising the level of swimming and making Canada proud”. The bestowing moment remained a milestone in the swimming prodigy and her birthplace, Canada’s history. The Panam Sports also mentioned the 24-year-old swimmer’s hard work as a contributing factor to her latest glory.

This is directed to Maggie’s relentless contributions not only to the sport but also to society. Maggie Mac Neil has been working on asthma awareness for years in society. Being a fortunate survivor, the two-time world champion conceded once, “I am one of the lucky few who has defied the odds to excel in a sport that demands endurance, stamina and healthy lungs,…It hasn’t been easy…”. Despite that, Maggie Mac Neil has not lost her hopes to be again in the “Greatest Show on Earth “.

The Road to the Paris Olympics 2024 

The Pan Am games in Chile this year witnessed Maggie Mac Neil’s talent side full-fledged. The Ontario-born swimmer took the existing records to cleaners in the 100m fly. Eventually, she recorded the game-best 56.94 to clinch the gold medal. However, that was far behind her personal best, which won the gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Despite that, she could show her steady improvement process as, after the 2022 season, Maggie also won Commonwealth gold this year. Now, after a big title win, her fans would want her to reach the Olympic podium once again.
