In both the Rio and Tokyo Olympics, Australia’s swimming squad clinched gold in the 4x100m free relay in the women’s category. Madison Wilson turned out to be an important member of the gold-winning Australian relay team. So on that estimate, the fans were expecting to see her along with Cate Campbell for one last time on the same team. However, that wish faced a stumble in the latest Instagram post of Madison.

On February 1, the 29-year-old swimmer announced her pregnancy news on social media. “The 2 becomes 3. What a journey ours has been, we are excited to announce we are expecting our rainbow baby in 2024”, the captivating IG post disclosed.

Last year, the 2x Olympic gold medalist announced her engagement with Australian cricketer Matt Short. Both the swimming and cricket community had filled the occasion with special wishes. Noting that, Madison added “It has been a whirlwind 12 months and we are so excited for what the future holds” in the same post. With the pregnancy news, the chances of her withdrawal from the Paris 2024 Olympics are looking likely.

However, she is not the only one from the Australian swimming community to pull out from the upcoming mega event.

As of now, Mollie O’Callaghan and Kaylee McKeown will be the go-to choice for the Paris 2024 Olympics. But for the rest of the positions, the camp will have to dig deeper.
