Known for its huge waves and spectacular views, Long Island’s beaches have been a tourist spot for years. However, a fun beach day planned at one of these beautiful beaches can sometimes go very wrong.

On Tuesday, while celebrating the national holiday, and enjoying the sea, two swimmers became victims of a shark attack at the renowned beaches of Long Island, New York. As the people were busy enjoying the water, the shark, out of the blue, attacked two men, leaving them with a scar they will remember forever.

Shark Attacks on the Fourth of July

On July 4, a 47-year-old man was enjoying the salty water off Quogue Village Beach in the Hamptons. When suddenly a sand shark attacked the man and bit his right knee. According to the victim, he could not see the shark until it was too late. Just a few hours after this horrifying incident, another man became a victim of a shark attack at Fire Island Pines Beach. The 49-year-old male swimmer was suddenly attacked and bitten by the predator as well.

These two events occurred only one day after a 15-year-old girl’s leg was attacked by a mysterious predator in the water. In an interview with The Guardian, a local stated, “She didn’t see what bit her; the lifeguards didn’t know what bit her; the drone operator checked the area; we didn’t see.” “So we can’t definitively say what bit her.”

However, even after witnessing so many horrifying situations, the people did not seem to leave the beach, as they still enjoyed their holiday soaking in the sun. Due to this, Quogue police are trying to assess the situation. The police have also asked beachgoers not to swim at the beaches until the assessment process is completed.

Rising shark attacks at the New York Beaches

According to the locals, the reason for so many attacks is the nature of these predatory beasts, as they don’t like the ever-present presence of people in their area. To assess the increase in sharks lurking in the water, patrols, and drones have been increased at the beaches. while talking about this concerning situation. Rodney Harrison, police commissioner at Suffolk County, stated in an interview with the WABC “We did have a season last year where we had six swimmers bitten by sharks, so this has turned into a bit of a concern.”

Clearly, Shark attacks have become very common on New York beaches, causing chaos for everyone. Overall, this situation has become a rising concern for both the police and the locals. Thankfully, no death or serious lacerations were reported, but beachgoers are advised to be cautious near the water.
