Michael Phelps has left his competitors a long way behind to a point that he was the only competitor he had. Notably, Phelps has clinched 28 medals in his Olympic career, of which 23 are gold. Other than gold, he has three silver and two bronze.

Michael Phelps advises fans on how to overcome fear
Michael Phelps is bigger than just a name. He represents the whole sport of swimming. In fact, he has a strong insight about overcoming fear.
When asked about how he overpowered his fear of water and what advice he would like to give to the young generation on overcoming fear. Phelps told her when he started to get in the pool; he just did not like to put his face underwater. Although he wasn’t able to describe that feeling, he made it clear that he didn’t want to put his face underwater.
To overcome this, he started learning to swim on his back to avoid direct contact with water on his face. Later, he got comfortable with water and confident to put his face underwater. Phelps added, “When you talk about overcoming fears, fears are things that are going to help you become stronger whether it is mentally, physically, emotionally because it is gonna give you a little bit of confidence to help you know you can push through actually anything.”
“Every day isn’t going to feel perfect”: Phelps

When Phelps was asked, “How important is it to get out of your comfort zone to get success?” Phelps answered, “I always say you are not gonna feel like a million bucks when you get out of bed every day, every day isn’t going to feel perfect, but if you can get one percent, five percent, ten percent, twenty percent out of that day, instead of getting a zero, then you are making progress and working towards your goal.”
Phelps also mentioned this in the media before. Similarly, relating to his routine he had hundreds of days when he didn’t feel like getting out of bed. Moreover, Phelps feels that these are the day that differentiates between good and great.
