Ryan Mallett, who played for over 7 years in the NFL, met with an unprecedented fate shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday according to the Okaloosa Sheriff’s Department. The authorities said that Ryan was part of a group that seemed to struggle while returning to the shore and the 35-year-old was eventually pulled under the water by the high intensity torrents.

When the first responders and lifeguards were finally able to pull him out of the water, the former Ravens quarterback was not breathing. All lifesaving attempts were unsuccessful. Soon after reaching the hospital, Ryan was pronounced dead.

During the course of his career, Ryan registered 1,835 passing yards in 21 games. At the same time, he threw 9 touchdown passes and successfully completed 10 interceptions. Back in 2011, Ryan was the 3rd round pick of the New England Patriots during the 2011 NFL Draft and was a backup for Tom Brady in 2012 and 2013. On their former player’s sudden demise, the New England Patriots released a statement saying,?“The New England Patriots are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of former quarterback Ryan Mallett. Our thoughts are with the Mallett family, his former teammates and all who are mourning his loss.”?

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized to the people that even if they are experienced swimmers, they are no match for a rip current. Ryan Mallett’s drowning brings the death toll at the popular beach to 7. What is astonishing is that all these drownings have transpired in the past 10 days. Authorities have a really tough job on their hand if people continue to disobey norms and risk their lives on Gulf Coast beaches.

Worrying data about the crisis unfolding in Gulf Coast beaches

When people disregard rules, chaos follows. The National Weather Service has compiled data on all recent drownings and concluded that all deaths have resulted from rip currents. These rip currents are so powerful in nature that in the past two weeks, 2 people have drowned in different beaches in Alabama. Adding to the misery, 2 more deaths were recorded on Blue Mountain Beach and Miramar Beach in Florida. All recent drownings happened in areas where swimming had been already prohibited by authorities.
