Michael Phelps earned the title G.O.A.T. swimmer by showcasing magnificent swimming skills leading to incredible achievements throughout his career. The Baltimore-born swimmer began his swimming journey in his teenage. He accompanied his elder sister to the pool in the beginning. But later, he became famous in the swimming fraternity with his unmatchable skills.

He made his debut in the 2000 Olympics, from where he returned without medals. However, that might have pushed him to work so hard that he never returned without one again. And the rest is history. However, after winning his 23rd gold medal in 2016, Phelps revealed his happiness at sharing something in common with the basketball legend Michael Jordan.

23 is a special number for Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps is a legend in his sport. On the other hand, Michael Jordan is one of the greatest basketball players ever. He was only the second to score 3000 points in a single season. Jordan dominated the game for almost two decades and is considered the G.O.A.T. But what do these two legends have in common?

Phelps played his last Olympics in 2016 before retiring from professional swimming. In his last Olympics, he continued his brilliant performances to win five gold and one silver. The last gold medal marked his 23rd Olympic medal, and it thrilled him as it matched his idol’s jersey number. Jordan wore a 23-number jersey, for most of his N.B.A career.

Thrilled Phelps’ said“Michael Jordan has been an inspiration to me throughout my whole career.” He added, “What he did to the sport of basketball is what I’ve always wanted to do in the sport of swimming. No. 23 is a special number, and will always be a special number. It always has been, and now it is even more special.”

Phelps once stripped to distract basketball players

Michael Phelps is a legendary swimmer. However, Phelps’ love for college tournaments isn’t hidden. He loved to train at the University of Michigan with his coach Bob Bowman and recently was made the honorary captain of their football team.

However, once Phelps joined the famous Arizona State University’s ‘Curtain of Distraction‘ in a basketball match. To distract the players, Phelps came out of the curtain and stripped down with the gold medals hanging around his neck. Interestingly, it worked, and the Oregon State University players missed both free shots.
